The Purina first:

* 1894- Purina gets its start in St. Louis making the first commercial horse feed, OMOLENE.

* 1928- Purina revolutionizes the animal feed industry by introducing the first compressed feeds, or NUGGETS.

* 1935- The first dry feeds, STARTENA, for early weaning of dairy calves without hay; and RECEPTION CHOW for beef calves and steers.

* 1950-60- The first coarse pelletized feeds.

* 1970- The first high-energy feeds for poultry and hogs (H-O), with added fat and high amino acid levels.     

*1982- A new form of weather resistant feed, SUP-R-BLOCKS.

* 1984- PUR-A-TECH, innovative software for forumlating beef and dairy rations.

* 1990- The first biological modeling software:  MCP Model for dairy production, LEANTEC for hog production and BEEF TECH, for beef cattle.

* 1994-97- The first extruded feeds, EXTRULAIT and EXTRUPRO - and now EXTREME - which acts directly on milk production.

* 1997-99- The first feed for lactating sows, EXTRUTOP
